Get a written offer from a UAE employer that applies for your MOHRE work permit and pays the recruitment and visa costs. Forklift operators in Dubai also need an RTA equipment licence, which needs an Emirates ID, so it is usually obtained after arrival. If your passport is ECR, get emigration clearance on eMigrate before flying. Never pay for a visa or job.
How can an Indian get a warehouse job in Dubai legally?

Most results for "warehouse jobs in Dubai" are job-board listings and salary aggregators. Listings show what is advertised. They do not explain which rules protect you. On the pages we checked on 28 October 2026, none cited MOHRE, the UAE Government portal, the RTA or the Ministry of External Affairs, and one salary page gave no date or source for its figures.
This guide covers what is specific to warehouse work: how MOHRE classifies jobs by skill level, the Dubai forklift licence, shift and overtime pay, how the wage rules name the transport and storage sector, injury compensation, and the Indian emigration steps. General points such as labour camp standards are covered in our construction jobs guide, and the full visa process is in Jobs in Dubai for Indians.
Pay: the UAE Government says the UAE Labour Law sets no minimum salary, so your offer letter is where your wage is fixed. Helper and packer listings we saw in search results on 28 October 2026 were mostly advertised between about AED 1,000 and AED 2,000 a month, and storekeeper listings were often around AED 3,000. These are advertised figures from job boards, not an official wage. Confirm the figure, and whether food, housing and transport are included, in writing.
| Role | Usual work | What an official source says (as shown in October 2026) | Confirm in your offer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warehouse helper / loader | Loading, unloading, moving stock, cleaning racks | No role-specific rule found. The general work-permit, wage, hours and safety rules apply. If you load or unload in the open in summer, the midday-break rule may apply (see below). | Salary, hours, shift pattern, housing, transport, protective equipment |
| Picker / packer | Picking orders with scanners, packing, labelling | No role-specific rule found. Some listings pay by number of packages, which the official pages we read do not address. | Whether pay is fixed or output-based, and what the basic salary is (overtime is calculated on basic salary) |
| Storekeeper / assistant storekeeper | Stock records, goods received notes, inventory counts, often on an ERP system | MOHRE classifies jobs into 9 professional levels. The u.ae page does not say which level a storekeeper falls in. | Job title on the work permit, salary, and whether your degree or diploma needs attestation |
| Forklift operator | Moving pallets, racking, loading containers | RTA requires a licence for light or heavy mechanical equipment. You must be over 20, pass an eye test, training, a knowledge test and a practical test. | Who arranges and pays for the RTA licence, and what you do (and are paid) until you hold it |
As shown by the UAE Government portal in October 2026 (text provided by MOHRE), MOHRE classifies workers into 9 professional levels based on the ILO's International Standard Classification of Occupations. Level 5 is service and sales occupations, Level 7 is craftsmen in construction, mining and other crafts, Level 8 is operators and assemblers of machinery and equipment, and Level 9 is simple professions.
The same page says work counts as skilled only if all four conditions are met: the job is at one of levels 1 to 5, the worker holds a certificate higher than secondary school (or equivalent), the certificate is attested by the competent authorities, and the monthly salary excluding commission is at least AED 4,000. So a warehouse job paying under AED 4,000 a month does not meet the skilled definition on salary alone, whatever the job title.
The u.ae page does not map job titles such as helper, storekeeper or forklift operator to a level, and it does not list every consequence of being classified skilled or not. Ask your employer which occupation and level will appear on your work permit and keep that in writing. Do not pay anyone to "upgrade" your level. The level follows from the permit, your attested certificate and your salary.
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) lists two equipment licence categories on its driving licence service page, as shown in October 2026: a licence for tractors or light equipment (all tractors and light equipment with an empty weight of up to 7.5 tonnes) and a licence for tractors or heavy equipment (covering light and heavy equipment). The minimum age for both is 20.
The RTA's Forklift Operator's Handbook sets out the eligibility criteria: you must be over 20, pass an eye test, complete forklift training until competent, pass a knowledge test and a practical test, and pay the fees. It also says that until you hold a forklift licence you may drive a forklift only under the supervision of an instructor who holds a valid licence for that vehicle type. The handbook we read is the 1st edition from November 2008, so check the current rules with the RTA (call centre 800 90 90).
Dubai's Administrative Resolution No. 146 of 2019 also provides Special Drivers Permits for light and heavy mechanical equipment, which authorise driving in a particular area or for special duties. Applicants must be medically fit, at least 20 years old for these permits, and hold a valid residence permit if they are not UAE nationals.
What this means for an Indian applicant: the RTA service page lists a valid Emirates ID and eye test among the documents, and the permit rules require a residence permit. None of the RTA pages we read says an Indian forklift certificate or licence can be exchanged for the Dubai equipment licence. In practice, plan to sit the Dubai licence after arrival, and ask your employer in writing who pays. The UAE work-permit conditions also say the worker must meet the conditions in the law for any role that requires a licence to practise.
As shown by the UAE Government in October 2026, normal private-sector working hours are 8 hours a day or 48 hours a week. If you work five consecutive hours you are entitled to one or more breaks totalling at least one hour, and breaks are not counted as working hours. Time spent commuting from your housing to work is not counted as working hours, except for categories set in the Executive Regulations.
The employer may ask for overtime of no more than two extra hours a day. Overtime pay is the normal hourly pay based on basic salary plus 25 per cent, or plus 50 per cent for overtime between 10 pm and 4 am. The page states that this overtime rule does not apply to workers who work in shifts, which matters for warehouses running rotating shifts. Ask how night shifts and extra hours are paid and get it in writing. Work on your rest day earns a substitute rest day or basic-salary pay plus 50 per cent.
The midday break bans work under direct sunlight and in open places from 12.30 pm to 3 pm, from 15 June to 15 September every year, with listed exemptions. The wording covers outdoor work such as loading trucks in an open yard. It does not mention indoor warehouses, so check with your employer or MOHRE how it applies to your site.
The UAE Government says all MOHRE-registered establishments must pay wages through the Wage Protection System (WPS). Under Ministerial Resolution No. 340 of 2026, the previous month's salary is due on the first day of each Gregorian month, and at least 85 per cent of wages due must be transferred on time where lawful deductions apply.
The escalation table on the same page names the "transport and storage" sector specifically, alongside construction, security, cleaning and recruitment. For employers in those sectors, unpaid wages are counted across establishments with the same owner. From the 16th day after the due date, a labour dispute is registered automatically once 25 or more workers are affected, and from the 21st day the listed measures include a travel ban on the person in charge and, for repeated violations involving 50 or more workers, referral to the Public Prosecution. Read the page for the exact conditions.
On the Indian side, the Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi tells employers recruiting Indian workers through eMigrate to check the job designation and minimum wage criteria in eMigrate's minimum referral wages (MRW) report. It also states that food and accommodation should be provided in addition to the MRW, and that all employees should have medical, accident and life insurance. The MRW report did not load from our systems, so check the current UAE figure for your job title on eMigrate.
The UAE Government states that establishments with 50 or more workers earning AED 1,500 or less a month must provide accommodation and register it with MOHRE. Room sizes, bed and bathroom ratios are listed in our construction jobs guide. If your employer is smaller or you earn more, housing depends on your contract, so get it written into the offer.
Employers must provide protective equipment and training, and workers must use it. An employer must report an injury or death at work to MOHRE within 48 hours. If a work injury causes death or permanent total disability, the UAE Government says compensation is 24 months of basic wage, with a minimum of AED 18,000 and a maximum of AED 200,000. Partial disability is paid as a percentage of that amount. Because this compensation is based on basic wage, a low basic with high allowances reduces it.
The RTA forklift handbook also gives operator safety rules, for example that passengers should never ride on the fork arms or the load, and that collisions or near misses must be reported to a supervisor immediately.
The Ministry of External Affairs states that persons with ECR-endorsed passports going to any of the 17 ECR countries for employment require emigration clearance, and its list of those countries includes the UAE. Check your passport against our ECR passport guide.
The Consulate General of India in Dubai's guide for recruiting Indian male workers (ECR passport holders), updated August 2025, describes the route. The foreign employer registers on eMigrate, has the visa attested, and generates the employment contract on eMigrate. The worker then takes a Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana policy and applies for emigration clearance with the clearance fee, and the Protector of Emigrants issues the clearance. The guide says this direct route is for small numbers of workers in a year, and that larger hiring goes through a recruiting agent registered in India.
The MEA page also advises workers to ask a recruiting agent for its original registration certificate, and to keep a copy of the employment contract and a passport valid for at least six months. See how the eMigrate portal works.

The UAE Government says the employer you agreed to contract with bears recruitment, travel and residence-permit costs, and that charging recruitment fees to prospective employees is illegal. Get any charge in writing and keep receipts.
None of the RTA pages we read says an Indian forklift licence can be exchanged. Dubai issues light or heavy equipment licences after an eye test, training, a knowledge test and a practical test, and the application needs an Emirates ID.
The RTA lists 20 years as the minimum age for both the light equipment and heavy equipment driving licences. Its forklift handbook words the condition as over 20 years of age.
Under the MOHRE classification on u.ae, work is skilled only if the job is at levels 1 to 5, you hold an attested certificate above secondary school, and your salary is at least AED 4,000 a month. Your job title alone does not decide it.
There is no official figure. The UAE Labour Law sets no minimum salary. Listings we saw in October 2026 were mostly about AED 1,000 to AED 2,000 a month for helpers, but only your written offer counts.
Normal hours are 8 a day or 48 a week, overtime is limited to two hours a day, and a break of at least one hour is due after five consecutive hours. The u.ae page says the standard overtime pay rule does not apply to shift workers.
It applies to work under direct sunlight in open places from 12.30 pm to 3 pm, 15 June to 15 September. Outdoor loading is covered by that wording. The page does not mention indoor warehouses.
Yes, if your passport is ECR. The Ministry of External Affairs says ECR passport holders going to any of the 17 ECR countries, including the UAE, for employment need emigration clearance through eMigrate.
Employers with 50 or more workers earning AED 1,500 or less a month must provide accommodation, according to the UAE Government. For Indian workers recruited through eMigrate, the Embassy says food and accommodation should be provided on top of the minimum referral wage.
