Find an employer that the Home Office has licensed as a sponsor, then get a job offer and a certificate of sponsorship for a role on the eligible occupation list. How can an Indian get a job in the UK from India?
Find an employer that the Home Office has licensed as a sponsor, then get a job offer and a certificate of sponsorship for a role on the eligible occupation list. GOV.UK says you need that confirmed offer before you apply. Check the employer on the official register first, and never pay anyone for a sponsorship certificate.
For most Indians, a UK job and a UK work visa are one process. GOV.UK says the Skilled Worker visa needs a UK employer approved by the Home Office, a certificate of sponsorship (CoS) from that employer describing the role, and a confirmed job offer before you apply. So the practical task is not finding a visa agent. It is finding a genuine licensed employer who is willing to hire from abroad. This page is about that search. The visa rules themselves are in our UK Skilled Worker visa guide.
GOV.UK's Skilled Worker page does not explain how to find a sponsor or a vacancy, so there is no official shortcut. The steps below use the official register and the official eligibility pages to test any offer you receive.
GOV.UK's Skilled Worker 'Your job' page says higher skilled occupation codes are eligible. It says medium skilled codes are eligible only if the job is on the immigration salary list or the temporary shortage list (with one prison officer exception for people extending or switching). Because these lists change, read the live table for your code instead of relying on a blog's list of 'in-demand' jobs.
As shown by GOV.UK in October 2026, the general salary threshold is £41,700 a year, or the going rate for the occupation code if that is higher. GOV.UK also shows a reduced threshold of £33,400 a year for people who are not in healthcare or education and qualify under its 'when you can be paid less' rules. Healthcare and education use national pay scales instead, and the page gives no single figure for them. Confirm all figures on the official page before you accept an offer.
| Point to check | What GOV.UK shows (October 2026) | Where to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Occupation eligible? | Your 4-digit code must be in the eligible-occupations table | GOV.UK Skilled Worker: Your job |
| Minimum pay | £41,700 a year or the occupation's going rate, whichever is higher; reduced £33,400 only in limited cases | GOV.UK Skilled Worker: Your job |
| English | Level B2 on the CEFR scale; B1 for some people extending or updating a visa obtained before 8 January 2026 | GOV.UK Skilled Worker: Knowledge of English |
| Savings | At least £1,270 held for 28 consecutive days, unless exempt or the employer certifies maintenance | GOV.UK Skilled Worker: How much it costs |
| Application fee from outside the UK | £819 for up to 3 years, £1,618 for over 3 years; £628 and £1,235 for immigration salary list jobs | GOV.UK Skilled Worker: How much it costs |
| Healthcare surcharge | Usually £1,035 per year of stay | GOV.UK Skilled Worker: How much it costs |
GOV.UK says the Health and Care Worker visa is for a qualified doctor, nurse, health professional or adult social care professional with an approved employer, a CoS and a confirmed job offer. It also says you and your family will not have to pay the healthcare surcharge. On its 'Your job' page it says you will usually need to be paid at least £25,000, or the going rate if that is higher, with different salary rules for some codes and NHS pay bands for other health jobs.
| Role | Code on GOV.UK | How GOV.UK lists it |
|---|---|---|
| Doctors | 2211, 2212 | In the eligible list for applying |
| Registered nurses (several types) | 2231 to 2237 | In the eligible list for applying |
| Pharmacists | 2251 | In the eligible list for applying |
| Social workers | 2461 | In the eligible list for applying |
| Care workers and home carers | 6135 | Under the heading for extending, updating or switching |
| Senior care workers | 6136 | Under the heading for extending, updating or switching |
Care worker (6135) and senior care worker (6136) rules have changed repeatedly, and this is where most overseas job scams concentrate. What GOV.UK's pages show now: codes 6135 and 6136 appear only in a list headed 'Check if an occupation code is eligible to extend, update or switch to this visa', described as 'medium skilled' codes. For switching, you must have worked legally for your sponsor for at least 3 months. The page says care workers in England need an employer registered with the Care Quality Commission. A cut-off date of 22 July 2025 is shown for some extension cases.
What the pages we fetched do not say: GOV.UK's Health and Care Worker pages do not state in plain words whether someone outside the UK can apply with these two codes, and the text we retrieved did not contain a closure notice. The way the lists are laid out points to in-country routes only, but that is our reading, not an official statement. Several immigration advice sites say overseas recruitment of care workers ended on 22 July 2025, but we could not confirm that on GOV.UK, so treat it as unverified. Before you pay a fee, travel or resign, ask the employer to confirm in writing which route your visa would use, then check the same point against the GOV.UK pages linked below.
GOV.UK says a Skilled Worker decision usually takes 3 weeks for applications made from outside the UK, and a faster decision may be available for a fee. The job search itself is the unpredictable part. GOV.UK says it usually takes around 8 weeks to process an employer's sponsor licence application, so a company that is not yet licensed cannot hire you quickly. Allow for the job search, employer checks, the CoS, English evidence and savings, and the 3-month windows GOV.UK gives for the CoS and the start date. Our step-by-step guide to getting a job abroad shows the sequence for any country.
GOV.UK does not set CV or interview rules, so these are practical suggestions, not official requirements. Use the job title and wording of the advert, show what you did in each role in plain English, and keep the dates consistent with your documents. Be ready to say that you need sponsorship, since employers decide this early. For English, GOV.UK accepts a Secure English Language Test with an approved provider, a degree taught in English that has been assessed by Ecctis, or a prior successful visa application, and it lists some exemptions, including doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives and vets who have passed an English assessment accepted by their professional body. Check the live page for your case.

For the Skilled Worker visa, no. GOV.UK says you must work for a Home Office approved employer and have a certificate of sponsorship and a confirmed job offer before you apply.
Search the Home Office register of licensed sponsors, which GOV.UK describes as organisations licensed on the Worker and Temporary Worker routes. Use the exact company name from your offer letter. Being listed shows the licence exists, but you should still confirm the offer is genuine.
As shown by GOV.UK in October 2026, £41,700 a year or the occupation's going rate if higher, with a reduced £33,400 in limited cases. Health and Care Worker visa roles usually need at least £25,000 or the going rate. Confirm on GOV.UK, as these figures change.
We could not confirm this from GOV.UK. Its pages list care worker codes 6135 and 6136 under extending, updating or switching, and do not say plainly whether overseas applicants can use them. Ask for written confirmation of the route and never pay for a care job offer.
GOV.UK requires English at B2 on the CEFR scale for the Skilled Worker visa, and accepts a Secure English Language Test, a degree taught in English assessed by Ecctis, or a prior successful application as proof. Some nationalities and professionals are exempt. Check the current page.
GOV.UK says a decision usually takes 3 weeks if you apply from outside the UK. You can apply up to 3 months before your start date and must apply within 3 months of receiving your certificate of sponsorship.
We do not hold an eMigrate recruiting-agent registration yet, and we do not charge upfront job fees. Use the official sponsor register to verify any UK employer, and read our Trust Center before sharing documents with anyone.
