The Qatari employer applies for your work visa first. You then book a Qatar Visa Centre (QVC) appointment using your visa and passport numbers, and at one of seven centres in India you sign the e-contract, give biometrics and take the medical test. ECR passport holders also need eMigrate clearance. After you arrive, the residence permit (QID) is issued in Qatar.
How does an Indian get a Qatar work visa?
The Qatari employer applies for your work visa first. You then book a Qatar Visa Centre (QVC) appointment using your visa and passport numbers, and at one of seven centres in India you sign the e-contract, give biometrics and take the medical test. ECR passport holders also need eMigrate clearance. After you arrive, the residence permit (QID) is issued in Qatar.
A Qatar work visa is never something you buy on your own. The employer in Qatar gets the visa approved, and the Qatar Visa Centre (QVC) in India does the parts that need you in person: contract signing, biometrics and the medical. The Qatar Visa Centre site says plainly that QVCs do not provide job offers of any kind and warns against people posing as QVC agents. This guide is about the visa process only. For finding an employer and judging an offer, read our jobs in Qatar for Indians guide.
Read in October 2026: the official Qatar Visa Centre site (qatarvisacenter.com, India section: How to Book, Visa Center, FAQs and Track Application), the Ministry of Interior (MOI) portal's Visa Services and Residency Permits inquiry pages, two Hukoomi service pages (residence permit by visa number, and change of employer), the Government Communications Office (GCO) Labour Reform page, the Embassy of India Doha recruitment FAQ and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emigration page. The address qvc.gov.qa did not resolve for us, and the MOI portal links to qatarvisacenter.com as the place to track QVC applications, so treat qatarvisacenter.com as the official QVC site. We could not open the Ministry of Labour site (mol.gov.qa). Confirm everything on the live official pages before you act.
| Stage | Who does it | What the official page says | Where to confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Work visa approval | Qatari employer | GCO says the Ministry of Labour launched a fast-track e-service in February 2022 that automatically grants work visa approvals to Labour Law-compliant companies. The worker does not apply. | GCO Labour Reform; Ministry of Labour |
| Biometric visa fee | Employer | QVC shows a Biometric Visa Fee of USD 137.00 for India and says it is paid by the employer in Qatar directly to the Ministry of Interior. QVC FAQ: no biometric visa fee is charged to the applicant. | qatarvisacenter.com, How to Book (India) |
| QVC appointment | You (or someone for you) | Book online with your visa number and passport number. The appointment letter gives the centre address, any fees and guidelines. | qatarvisacenter.com, Book Appointment |
| Contract, biometrics, medical | You, in person at QVC | Sign the digital work contract, enrol fingerprints, iris and face, then a medical with X-ray and blood tests the same day. | QVC Visa Center page and FAQs |
| Emigration clearance (ECR only) | Agent or employer on eMigrate | MEA lists Qatar among the 17 countries where emigration clearance is required. | mea.gov.in, emigrate.gov.in |
| Residence permit (QID) | Employer, in Qatar | Hukoomi: a new residence permit is issued for someone who entered on a visa number and has no QID; the person must be in Qatar and complete medical and fingerprint steps first. Fees vary by permit type. | Hukoomi; MOI portal |
The QVC site lists seven centres for India: Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai. Its FAQ says QVC runs 14 centres in 6 countries (India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal and the Philippines). The GCO page still describes an older announcement of 20 centres in seven countries, so go by the QVC site for current locations.
For the Chennai centre, as shown on QVC in October 2026: Shyamala Towers, 1st Floor, East Wing, 136 Arcot Road, Saligramam, Chennai 600093; working days Monday to Friday; biometric enrolment 08:30 to 16:30 and medical screening 09:00 to 17:00. The India helpline is +91 44 6133 1333 (phone help Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:00) and the email is info.ind@qatarvisacenter.com. The site publishes a 2026 holiday list per centre. Choose your own city on the QVC Visa Center page for its address and hours.
QVC also says a walk-in service is available if you miss your slot or want an earlier date, and that walk-in slots are limited. Outstation applicants are advised to plan for a possible overnight stay in case extra tests are needed.
QVC says all fees once paid are non-refundable and that value-added services such as the lounge, insurance and SIM offers are optional. Its FAQ adds that the lounge gives priority handling at the centre but does not affect or guarantee faster visa or medical processing by the Ministry of Interior. If anyone asks you to pay the USD 137 biometric fee, or charges you to book a QVC appointment, ask for the official basis in writing.
| Fee | Amount on QVC (India) | Who pays, per QVC |
|---|---|---|
| Biometric Visa Fee | USD 137.00 | Employer in Qatar, paid directly to the Ministry of Interior |
| Lounge fee (optional) | INR 3,200.00 | Paid by the applicant at the centre, or by the sponsor if booked online with the appointment. QVC says it is inclusive of GST and collected by Biomet Visa (India) Pvt Ltd. |
| Advanced medical tests after a referral | Not stated | QVC says extra X-rays at its medical centre are free, but tests at external approved facilities may be paid by the applicant directly, with an official receipt. |
QVC's FAQ lists a general examination with vision, height, weight and blood pressure; a chest X-ray; and lab tests including HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis (VDRL), blood sugar, liver and kidney markers, haemoglobin, malaria and microfilaria, and a pregnancy test for women. The Visa Center page also mentions vaccination. QVC says it does not recommend chest X-rays during pregnancy, so tell the reception if you are pregnant.
On timing, QVC says results are typically available within 72 hours, and separately asks you to allow 10 to 15 business days for the visa medical assessment stage. Some applicants are referred for further tests; QVC says that if testing and treatment take more than about 60 days, the medical must be repeated. The QVC medical is done at the centre itself and the QVC pages do not mention GAMCA. For GAMCA medicals used by other Gulf countries, see our GAMCA report check guide.
Qatar is an ECR country. The MEA page on emigration for employment says clearance is required only for 17 countries and names Qatar, along with Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. That page shows a last-updated date of 16 May 2016, so confirm the list on mea.gov.in and eMigrate. If your passport is ECR, the clearance is done on eMigrate before you leave India; read our ECR guide and eMigrate guide. If your passport is ECNR, ECR clearance does not apply, but the QVC steps still do.
The Embassy of India in Doha lists the papers for Embassy attestation: for agent recruitment, a copy of the visa, the demand letter, the power of attorney and the employment agreement; for direct recruitment by a Qatari employer, the visa copy, an application for a recruitment permit, the emigration application form and the agreement. It says these must first be attested by Qatar's Ministry of Labour and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The same FAQ describes the Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana as mandatory insurance for ECR workers going to ECR countries, with a maximum sum insured of Rs 10 lakh.
Job Spectra is operated by Spectravault Group LLP, with offices in Deira (Dubai), Bengaluru and Sugauli (Bihar). We do not currently hold an eMigrate recruiting-agent registration, we cannot guarantee any job or visa, and we follow the no-upfront-job-fees policy on our Trust Center. You can browse openings or submit your CV, but the visa itself always comes through a Qatari employer, the QVC and the official pages listed below.

QVC shows a Biometric Visa Fee of USD 137 for India and says the employer in Qatar pays it directly to the Ministry of Interior, not the applicant. An optional lounge costs INR 3,200. The official pages we read do not give the employer's visa approval fee or the QID fee.
The QVC site lists seven Indian centres: Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow and Mumbai. Choose your city on the Visa Center page of qatarvisacenter.com for its address, hours and holiday list. The India helpline is +91 44 6133 1333.
Go to qatarvisacenter.com, choose India and your language, open Book Appointment and enter your visa number and passport number. Print the appointment letter. You can reschedule at least 24 hours before your slot, up to three times, but QVC says a booking cannot be cancelled.
You check in with your appointment letter and passport, sign the digital employment contract, give fingerprints, an iris scan and a facial image, and then take the medical about an hour later. QVC says to allow around 2 hours for the medical. QVC does not decide the visa; the Ministry of Interior does.
QVC says results are typically available within 72 hours, and asks you to allow 10 to 15 business days for the visa medical assessment stage. If you do not travel within 60 days of your last visa medical, QVC says you must repeat the whole process.
Use Track Application on qatarvisacenter.com with your passport and visa numbers for the QVC stages. The MOI portal's Visa Services page lists visa approval tracking and visa inquiry and printing. QVC says completed biometrics or medical do not mean the visa is issued, so ask your employer for the decision.
Yes. The Ministry of External Affairs lists Qatar among the 17 countries where ECR passport holders need emigration clearance for employment. The page we read was last updated on 16 May 2016, so check the current list on mea.gov.in and eMigrate.
The QID is the Qatar residence permit. Hukoomi says the employer issues it in Qatar using your visa number after you arrive and complete the medical and fingerprint steps, and that fees vary by permit type. The pages we read give no fixed deadline.
GCO says exit permits were abolished for workers, except that employers can seek MOI approval for up to 5% of staff in critical roles, and domestic workers must give 72 hours' notice. GCO also says no NOC is needed to change jobs; Hukoomi lists a free change-of-employer service.
No. The QVC site says Qatar Visa Centres do not provide job offers of any kind and only handle the services needed for visa issuance. It warns about people falsely claiming to be QVC agents.
