Yes, but not on a tourist or Schengen visa. Most Indians who are hired from India need an employer that the Dutch IND has recognised as a sponsor, because only that employer can apply for a highly skilled migrant permit or EU Blue Card. A recent graduate can alternatively look at the orientation year. Salary minimums apply.
Can an Indian get a job in the Netherlands, and which visa is needed?
Yes, but not on a tourist or Schengen visa. Most Indians who are hired from India need an employer that the Dutch IND has recognised as a sponsor, because only that employer can apply for a highly skilled migrant permit or EU Blue Card. A recent graduate can alternatively look at the orientation year. Salary minimums apply.
The IND (Immigration and Naturalisation Service) page on the highly skilled migrant permit, last updated 11 September 2026, says only an employer recognised by the IND can apply for the permit. It also says the sponsor applies for the MVV entry visa and the residence permit together. Government.nl says the same: non-EU nationals need a recognised sponsor, and recognised sponsors are listed in a public register.
In practice this means your first job in the Netherlands is usually decided by whether the employer is on that register and can meet the salary minimum. A job offer from a company that is not a recognised sponsor cannot be turned into a highly skilled migrant permit by you alone. See our general guide on how to get a job abroad from India for the wider picture.
Amounts below are gross per month, as shown by the IND's required-amounts page for 2026 in October 2026. The IND states that these amounts change every year on 1 January and that the amount on the application date applies, so confirm on the official page before you accept an offer.
| Route | Who applies | What the IND or government.nl says |
|---|---|---|
| Highly skilled migrant (HSM) | Recognised sponsor (employer) | Employment contract with a recognised sponsor and a market-rate salary. 2026 minimum: EUR 4,357 if under 30, EUR 5,942 if 30 or older. A reduced criterion of EUR 3,122 applies in set cases, such as within 3 years of graduating. |
| EU Blue Card | Recognised sponsor (employer) | 2026 minimum EUR 5,942. Reduced amount of EUR 4,754 for graduates applying within 3 years of graduation or promotion. |
| Orientation year for highly educated persons | You apply yourself | For people who studied in the Netherlands, graduated from a top university outside the Netherlands, or did research in the Netherlands. Lets you look for work or start a start-up. You may work during the year. |
| Other work permits | Employer | Not covered in this guide. Check the IND site for permits that are not highly skilled migrant routes. |
Government.nl says the orientation-year residence permit gives highly educated people time to find a job as a highly skilled migrant or to set up a start-up. It lists three groups: foreign students who studied in the Netherlands, foreign students who graduated from a top university outside the Netherlands, and foreign researchers who did research in the Netherlands. Graduates can apply within three years of graduating, or straight away.
An IND application form for the permit lists the fee for applications submitted between 1 January 2026 and 1 January 2027 as EUR 254. The IND's required-amounts page says the reduced salary criterion applies if you apply for a highly skilled migrant permit during the orientation year, or within 3 years of graduating.
Which foreign universities count as a top university is not defined on the government.nl page, and it does not state how long the permit lasts. Check the IND orientation-year page and application form for the current list and conditions. Some Indian blogs quote a specific ranking cut-off, but we could not confirm one on the official page we read.
The Ministry of External Affairs says emigration clearance is required only for 17 named countries, and the Netherlands is not among them in the MEA list we read in October 2026. So an Indian with an ECR passport does not need clearance for the Netherlands. You can read the full list in our ECR passport guide and how the system works in the eMigrate guide. If your plans include a stopover or a job in a Gulf country, that changes, so check the MEA page again.
Job Spectra is operated by Spectravault Group LLP. We do not currently hold an eMigrate recruiting-agent registration, and we cannot sponsor a Dutch permit or promise a job or visa. Our policy is that we do not charge upfront job fees; see our Trust Center. Use this guide to check an employer and an offer, and rely on the IND, government.nl and Netherlands Worldwide for the final rules.

Yes, but the permit is tied to the employer. For the highly skilled migrant permit and EU Blue Card, the IND says only a recognised sponsor can apply. Government.nl says non-EU nationals need a recognised sponsor for this route.
Search the IND's public register of recognised sponsors. The IND says the registers are updated once a month, so a new sponsor may not appear immediately. Ask the employer directly if it is not listed yet.
As shown by the IND's required-amounts page in October 2026: EUR 4,357 gross per month if you are under 30 and EUR 5,942 if you are 30 or older, with a reduced EUR 3,122 criterion in set cases. These change every 1 January, so confirm on the official page.
The IND page showed EUR 5,942 gross per month for 2026, or EUR 4,754 under the reduced criterion for graduates applying within 3 years of graduation or promotion. The sponsor applies, not you.
Government.nl describes it as a residence permit that gives highly educated people time to look for a job as a highly skilled migrant or to start a start-up, and they may work meanwhile. It covers students who studied in the Netherlands, graduates of top universities abroad and researchers in the Netherlands.
No. The IND says only the recognised employer can apply for this permit. You then attend the MVV appointment at the Dutch representation after a positive decision.
The IND page says it must take a decision within 90 days, with shorter periods in some situations and the option to extend by letter. Check the page for the current wording.
No, the Netherlands is not on the MEA's list of 17 ECR countries as read in October 2026. Clearance applies only to ECR passport holders going to one of those countries for employment.
Maybe. The Dutch Tax Administration lists conditions, including a yearly salary threshold, employer application and having been recruited from abroad. Because the rules have been changing, read the current Belastingdienst page and ask your employer.
